§ About

Who we are. What we're doing. What we're not.

This site is a sourced review of the proposed Town of Gray's Creek incorporation. We oppose the proposal as currently presented. Every claim on this site is sourced to the petitioners' own materials, North Carolina statute, or public data.

Who we are

Gray's Creek Facts is a small group of residents and business owners inside the proposed boundary of the Town of Gray's Creek.

We pay property tax in Cumberland County. We live, work, and operate businesses inside the proposed boundary. We oppose the incorporation of the Town of Gray's Creek as currently presented. A proposal this consequential, with no charter draft, no published budget, no governance structure, and no answer to basic questions about taxation, services, or scope, is not a plan. It is a request for a blank check. We are organizing to make that gap legible to our neighbors before they are asked to sign.

What we are doing

We are documenting the petitioners' public statements, comparing them against each other, and asking questions that the petitioners' materials do not answer. Every claim on this site is sourced. Every quote is attributed. Every comparison is between materials the petitioners themselves have published.

What we are not doing, yet

Every item below is conditional on the proposal as it stands today. If the petitioners publish the missing documents, or if the proposal changes materially, our position can change with it. Until then:

  • We are not opposing local control as a principle, yet. A well-structured municipal government can serve a community. Based on what has been published, this is not that proposal.
  • We are not running a counter-campaign for a different boundary or a smaller town, yet. If a serious proposal is published, we will read it on its merits, and we reserve the right to organize around an alternative if the petitioners will not.
  • We are not collecting signatures, yet. The petition is the petitioners' work. Our work right now is documenting it. If the proposal does not improve, that may change.
  • We are not making this personal, yet. Several of us know the petitioners. The objection is to the proposal they have published, not to them as neighbors. That distinction holds as long as the conversation stays about the documents.

Methodology

Every claim on this site is sourced to either the petitioners' published materials, North Carolina statute, US Census data, or Cumberland County GIS. Where we paraphrase, we paraphrase fairly. Where we quote, we quote exactly and link the source.

If we get something wrong, we want to know. Corrections are posted within 48 hours and dated in a public changelog (forthcoming as the site grows).

Funding

This site is paid for by the residents and business owners listed in the footer. We do not accept funding from political committees, party organizations, developers, or any party with a financial interest in the outcome. We will publish a list of contributors before any official petition response is filed.

Why now

The petitioners have set a November 1, 2026 deadline to submit signatures to the NC General Assembly. The community meetings are happening in June and July. The window for residents to read the materials, ask questions, and make an informed decision is short.

This site exists because no one else was going to read every page of grayscreeknc.com, cross-reference it against the Facebook post, line up the contradictions in a table, and publish the result. We did the work. The result is on this site. Take it and use it.

Contact

For journalists

Reporters covering the proposed incorporation can request access to our verified media-contact list. We maintain a list of residents and property owners inside the proposed boundary who have explicitly opted in to be quoted in coverage. To request access, email facts@grayscreekfacts.com from a published outlet address and include:

  • The outlet you write for
  • The angle or story you are pursuing
  • The deadline you are working to

We verify outlets by editorial-staff email or by phoning the newsroom. Verified outlets in scope include the Fayetteville Observer, CityView NC, WRAL, WTVD, Spectrum News, NC Newsroom, and similar publications with editorial oversight. Once verified, we share contact information only for residents who opted in to media contact, and only the methods (email and/or phone) they explicitly authorized. We do not share the list with the petitioners, political committees, advocacy groups, or marketing lists. Residents can revoke media-contact consent at any time by emailing the same address.
